Five Romantic Escapes for Valentine’s Day
Venice
Follow in the footsteps of Casanova while exploring the historic treasures, museums, fine restaurants and many pleasures of Venice. Take a leisurely Gondola ride for two along the city’s canals, take in the Renaissance architecture, and cross the charming bridges.
For a romantic dinner, consider the two Michelin-starred Glam Enrico Bartolini located at the Palazzo Venart Luxury Hotel, which is also a lovely spot to stay with a view of the Grand Canal. The contemporary tasting menus feature “Cicchetti” finger foods as a starter, with all the flavorful courses made with the finest seasonal ingredients.
Alternatively, savour the dishes outdoors at the one Michelin-starred Wistèria nestled among the flowers that give the restaurant its name. You’ll find it along the quiet side canal of Rio de la Frescada. Chef Valerio Dallamano treats dinners to contemporary dishes inspired by Venice’s gastronomic traditions on six- or eight-course tasting menus.
Fly in comfort by booking a private jet to Venice Marco Polo Airport and get to Venice by car or yacht across the lagoon.
Verona
As the setting for Romeo and Juliet, Verona has deep classical ties to romance. Verona is only an hour away from Venice by road or train for those who want to extend their romantic escape.
The Verona in Love festival takes place around Valentine’s Day with public entertainment and special treats. Visit the lovers' market at Piazza dei Signori. Stroll through the cobbled-stoned Piazza Bra near the Roman arena. Cross the restored Roman bridge of Ponte Pietra across the river Adige.
Enjoy the unique dining experience at the two Michelin-starred Casa Perbellini in a small house overlooking Piazza San Zeno. Watch the chefs work in the open-view kitchen under the watchful eye of owner-chef Giancarlo. Savour one of three tasting menus available (fish, meat or vegetarian) and the superb wine list offering an extensive selection of French wines.
Or dine at the classic Michelin-starred Il Desco in the heart of Verona, a family restaurant with a long history in the city which offers a modern spin on traditional Italian dishes inspired by son Matteo Rizzo. The salon-like ambience and fine cuisine make this restaurant a superb choice for a special occasion.
