History of FAB Paris
FAB Paris emerged as a harmonious blend of two leading French art fairs, La Biennale and Fine Arts Paris. Both with rich histories and distinct identities, these fairs have come together to create a new, prominent event in the art world. Let's delve into their individual histories to understand the significance of this merger.
History of La Biennale
La Biennale, with a legacy spanning over sixty years, has been a prominent fixture in the art world. It began in 1956 as the 'Foire des Antiquaires' and evolved into the Biennale des Antiquaires in 1962. This event, celebrated for its exquisite selection of antiques, fine art, and jewellery, turned the Grand Palais into a meeting point for esteemed dealers and collectors. La Biennale Paris, as it was known after its 28th edition in 2017, became an annual event, holding its last edition in 2021 before merging with Fine Arts Paris.
History of Fine Arts Paris
Fine Arts Paris was born out of the Salon du Dessin, debuting in 2017 at the Palais Brongniart with 34 galleries from France, Europe, and the USA. This event quickly became a central hub in the international art market, known for its eclectic and intimate nature yet ambitious scope. By its 5th edition in 2021, it expanded to host some 60 galleries at the Carrousel du Louvre and online. Fine Arts Paris made a name for itself by bringing together the best dealers in painting, drawing, sculpture, and also branching into new specialties like primitive arts, jewellery, Asian art, and rare books.
FAB Paris, a Confluence of Two Prestigious Art Events
In February 2022, a significant announcement was made: the merger of the Biennale and Fine Arts Paris, forging a new flagship event in Paris. This union was set to celebrate art from Antiquity to the present day. The inaugural edition of Fine Arts Paris & La Biennale was held at the Carrousel du Louvre in the same year. In 2023, this event evolved into FAB PARIS, relocating to the Grand Palais Éphémère. Plans are in place for the 2024 edition to be hosted in the renovated Grand Palais, continuing the tradition of showcasing diverse and exceptional works of art from different eras.
