United Arab Emirates Grand Prix
The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was first held in 2009 and has been held every year since at the Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, half an hour from Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The race was the first ever day-night race to be added to the Formula 1 World Championship calendar, beginning in daylight at 1700 and ending at night under powerful artificial lighting, creating a unique and spectacular atmosphere for fans and a new challenge for drivers. The track itself is one of a small number in Formula 1 to run anticlockwise and is one of the most demanding circuits in the sport that sees cars reach top speeds of 320km/h and average speeds of over 190km/h. Drivers’ skill, endurance and bravery are tested to the very limit through tight overtaking corners, a street circuit style sector and the longest straight in Formula 1, which ensures fans are always delivered an exciting, dramatic and unpredictable race. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is also the final race in the Formula 1 World Championship season and, even though it has only been held on a few occasions, it has already hosted some remarkable, historic moments, including the winning of World Championship titles in 2010 and 2014. All things considered, this unique and glamorous race, held in the amazing city of Abu Dhabi, is a true highlight of the Formula 1 season and an event not to be missed.
